DOMBIVLI: After 24 hours, the Kalyan-Dombivli fire brigade and Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) have failed to recover the bodies of two men who drowned in a nullah in Dombivli's Nadivali on Tuesday night. According to police and fire brigade sources, one of the victims, Harshad Jamkal, 24, drowned in the nullah on Tuesday, around 10 pm, as he was going home and when a passerby jumped in to rescue him, he too drowned. The second person is yet to be identified. The Dombivli fire brigade, along with a team of swimmers was searching for the duo but had failed to do so until Wednesday. Heavy downpour caused the nullah to be flooded and overflow. The Kalyan-Dombivli fire brigade, unable to trace the duo, informed the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), after which Commissioner Sanjiv Jaiswal sent six teams of the Thane Disaster Response Force (TDRF) to trace them. But their attempts too were unsuccessful. Santosh Kadam, officer, RDMC, said, "The nullah is 15 metres wide and approximately 3k long, emptying into Diva Creek. Rescue operations are on". Dilip Gund, chief officer, Kalyan fire station said, "We have been searching for them since Tuesday, but have been unable to find them. Efforts are under way to locate them".
