Govt to check sugar, onion hoard­ing

Fear­ing a spike in prices ahead of the fes­tive sea­son, the govern­ment an­nounced a se­ries of steps to check hoard­ing in po­lit­i­cally-sen­si­tive com­modi­ties such as sugar and onion. The Food Min­is­ter Ram Vi­las Paswan an­nounced the im­po­si­tion of stock lim­its on sugar mills for the next two months through a se­ries of tweets on Tues­day. Also, the Cen­tre asked the States and Union Ter­ri­to­ries to im­pose stock lim­its on onions and un­der­take var­i­ous mea­sures such as de-hoard­ing op­er­a­tions, ac­tion against spec­u­la­tors and prof­i­teers to keep prices un­der a check.
