Min­eral out­put up 9.4% in Au­gust

Min­eral pro­duc­tion from min­ing and quar­ry­ing was 9.4 per cent higher in Au­gust 2017 against pro­duc­tion in Au­gust 2016.

An of­fi­cial state­ment said, “The to­tal es­ti­mated value of min­eral pro­duc­tion (ex­clud­ing atomic and mi­nor min­er­als) in the coun­try dur­ing Au­gust 2017 was ₹18,015 crore.”

Coal was the high­est con­trib­u­tor at ₹6,158 crore while crude oil was the next at ₹5,489 crore. The value of pro­duced nat­u­ral gas stood at ₹2,225 crore and iron ore was val­ued at ₹1,921 crore.

With lig­nite pro­duc­tion worth ₹615 crore and lime­stone worth ₹ 562 crore, th­ese six min­er­als to­gether contributed about 94 per cent of the to­tal value of min­eral pro­duc­tion in Au­gust 2017.

Ap­atite & Phos­pho­rite pro­duc­tion was 120.1 per cent higher, di­a­mond pro­duc­tion was up 47.9 per cent, lead pro­duc­tion was up 41.4 per cent while Baux­ite pro­duc­tion was up 25 per cent.

Mag­ne­site pro­duc­tion was down by 52 per cent, while gold was down by 28.5 per cent.
