RJio ef­fect: Air­tel in pact with Celkon to of­fer 4G phone at ₹1,349

As the fight to cap­ture the lower end of mo­bile user space in­ten­si­fies, Air­tel has come out with a 4G phone at ₹1,349.

A bun­dled of­fer, an­nounced in as­so­ci­a­tion with a Hy­der­abad-based mo­bile man­u­fac­turer Celkon Mo­biles, would re­quire cus­tomers to make a de­posit of ₹2,849 to get the Celkon Smart 4G phone.

An­nounc­ing the part­ner­ship with Celkon Mo­biles here on Mon­day, Bharti Air­tel Chief Ex­ec­u­tive Of­fi­cer (Andhra Pradesh and Te­lan­gana) Venkatesh Vi­ja­yaragha­van said the of­fer is tar­geted at those who want to up­grade from the 2G con­nec­tions. “This of­fer helps them quickly up­grade to 4G from 2G,” he said.

Celkon Mo­biles Chair­man and Manag­ing Direc­tor Y Guru said the of­fer is of­fered for the Air­tel cus­tomers across the coun­try.

“We have a tar­get to sell five lakh phones un­der this part­ner­ship. There’s a huge de­mand for 4G phones at the lower end as peo­ple us­ing fea­ture phones as­pire to grad­u­ate to 4G phones,” he said.

Op­tions

Cus­tomers will get a cash re­fund of ₹500 and ₹1,000 on com­ple­tion of 18 and 36 months, re­spec­tively. How­ever, they need to go for a monthly recharge of ₹169 for 36 months.

Those who don’t want to join the ₹169 bun­dled plan can go for recharges of any de­nom­i­na­tion. To claim the cash backs, they must make recharges worth ₹3,000 in the first 18 months (to get ₹500) and another ₹ 3,000 in the re­main­ing 18 months to claim the re­main­ing ₹1,000.

Spec­i­fi­ca­tions

In­tro­duced as part of the Mer­aPehla Smart­phone ini­tia­tive that is aimed at of­fer­ing cheaper 4G phones, the phone of­fer is open for pre­paid cus­tomers only.

It comes with a four-inch touch screen, dual-SIM slots, 1.3 GhZ quad core pro­ces­sor and 1500 mAh bat­tery.

The 1-GB RAM phone has an 8 GB ROM, which ex­pand­able up to 32 GB.
