To sell front-load wash­ing ma­chines

Go­drej Ap­pli­ances has made a foray into front-load­ing, fully-au­to­matic, wash­ing ma­chines un­der the Go­drej Eon brand.

“Today, we are mak­ing a for­mal en­try into front load wash­ing ma­chines in Tamil Nadu,” said Ju­naith Babu, zonal busi­ness head, sales and mar­ket­ing, Go­drej Ap­pli­ances. “This com­pletes our range in wash­ing ma­chines from semi-au­to­matic to the fully-au­to­matic ver­sion. Ear­lier, we made an at­tempt in the front load seg­ment; it was a pilot project.”

In­di­cat­ing that front load wash­ing ma­chines were the fastest-grow­ing cat­e­gory at 15.5%, he said the firm’s aim was to cap­ture 10% of it by 2020. The mar­ket size for wash­ing ma­chines is 60 lakh units per year, with front load wash­ing ma­chines ac­count­ing for 7.2 lakh units.

“We are the sec­ond­largest player in semi-auto [seg­ment] af­ter LG and fourth in the top-load seg­ment af­ter LG and Sam­sung. Our aim is to be among the top three in turnover in the ap­pli­ances space by 2020,” he said.

“Last year, Go­drej Ap­pli­ances recorded sales in­come of ₹3,200 crore. This year, it should be about ₹3,500 crore. Wash­ing ma­chines will con­trib­ute about 15-20% of to­tal in­come,” said Lancelet L.J. Men­donca, AGM — mar­ket­ing.
