Film director Gautham Vasudev Menon was injured in a road accident early on Thursday near Semmanchery. Police said Mr. Menon was driving his vehicle towards the city on Old Mahabalipuram Road around 3.30 a.m. His car reportedly rammed a tipper lorry that was taking a U-turn near the Semmanchery signal.

The police said Mr. Menon may have dozed off at the wheel. The bonnet of the vehicle was completely damaged. As airbags inflated immediately, Mr. Menon sustained only minor injuries. Passers-by alerted the police, who rushed to the spot. The police said the director went to a private hospital and was discharged after first aid. Mr. Menon gave an undertaking that he was not willing to register a case. The police ruled out drunk driving to be the cause of accident.
