Po­lice con­tact Odisha po­lice for in­for­ma­tion on vic­tim

The Su­rat po­lice have in­ten­si­fied ef­forts to iden­tify the 11-year-old girl, who was raped and mur­dered by uniden­ti­fied per­sons. The po­lice have scanned pho­tos of 8,000 miss­ing girls and formed spe­cial probe teams.

The Su­rat Po­lice on Mon­day in­ten­si­fied ef­forts to iden­tify a girl aged about 11 whose mu­ti­lated body was found ear­lier this month.

A post-mortem ex­am­i­na­tion had re­vealed that she had been bru­tally as­saulted, raped and mur­dered.

The city po­lice have formed spe­cial teams, which combed ar­eas where mi­grant com­mu­ni­ties live on the out­skirts of the city.

The po­lice have also an­nounced a re­ward of ₹20,000 to those who can help es­tab­lish the iden­tity of the vic­tim or pro­vide clues lead­ing to the cul­prits. In Gand­hi­na­gar, Min­is­ter of State for Home Pradipsinh Jadeja told pressper­sons that the girl was prob­a­bly from Odisha.

“We con­demn the in­ci­dent and have di­rected the lo­cal po­lice to carry out stren­u­ous in­ves­ti­ga­tions in the mat­ter,” Mr. Jadeja said.

The Gu­jarat po­lice have con­tacted the Odisha po­lice to help with iden­ti­fy­ing the girl and track­ing down her fam­ily. “As per the post-mortem ex­am­i­na­tion, she was stran­gled to death and was tor­tured and raped for at least eight days,” Mr Jadeja said. “The city po­lice have scanned pho­tographs of 8,000 miss­ing girls to iden­tify the de­ceased.”

In a state­ment, As­sis­tant Com­mis­sioner of Po­lice (Crime Branch), Su­rat, R.R. Sar­vaiya, said the po­lice had combed sev­eral ar­eas, in­clud­ing where the body was found.
