The Hindu - - CHENNAI - Special Correspondent

The management of the Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Vandalur has launched a mobile app on the Android platform to help lakhs of visitors coming to the zoo.

Named ‘Vandalur Zoo,’ the app has multiple features such as online ticket booking for zoo visit and an interactive map that will act as a virtual tour guide inside the zoo. It helps visitors with directions and gives them an idea of the distance they have to walk to reach a particular animal enclosure.

A section is devoted to information on animals under the categories of mammals, reptiles and birds. A voice-based explanation is also available.

In 4D, the users can have a four dimensional view of the animals. It comes with audio and the information is in Tamil as well as English. The app will be a treat for children as about a dozen animals, including the tiger and white tiger, pop up on the mobile screen. Soon, more animals will be added.

Coming soon, games

In the next release, the zoo management plans to add a few interesting games and an events section for the public to participate in the zoo extension activities and promote awareness about animal conservation.

Presently, it is available only for Android phones (search ‘Vandalur zoo’ in Google Play Store). Shortly, it will be made available for iPhones also.
