BJP releases second list of 82 candidates for Karnataka polls
Some candidates for Karnataka polls have faced corruption, rape allegations
The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday came out with its second list of candidates with 82 names for the Assembly poll, which included some politically controversial ones such as former Ministers Katta Subramanya Naidu, S.N. Krishnaiah Setty, H. Halappa, and M.P. Renukacharya.
While the corruption charges against Mr. Naidu and the rape allegation against Mr. Halappa have been struck down by the courts, the corruption case against Mr. Setty is still pending. Mr. Renukacharya had landed in a controversy when his photographs with a woman had surfaced in the media.
The list was released a day after the party’s central election committee meeting in New Delhi. The party had released its first list of 72 candidates on April 8, and with Monday’s exercise, the party has released a list of 154 candidates.
Leaders’ kin on list
Among the Reddy brothers in Ballari, the party has given ticket to only G. Somashekhar Reddy so far. He is contesting from Ballari City.
Another interesting feature of the second list is that kin of some party leaders and the candidates, have also been given ticket.
Sanna Fakirappa, a relative of B. Sriramulu who is contesting from Molakalmur, has been given the ticket to contest from Ballari (ST). The former Deputy Chief Minister R. Ashok’s cousin, A. Ravi, has been given ticket to contest from Byatarayanapura.
While incumbent MLA Shashikala Annasaheb Jolle was given ticket in the first list itself to contest from Nippani, her husband Anna Saheb Jolle has been given the ticket to contest from Chikkodi-Sadalga seat in the second list.
