SIT to probe Re­wari gang rape

The Haryana po­lice on Satur­day con­sti­tuted a spe­cial in­ves­ti­ga­tion team (SIT) headed by an of­fi­cer of the rank of Su­per­in­ten­dent of Po­lice to in­ves­ti­gate the Re­wari gang rape case.

On Septem­ber 12, a 19year-old stu­dent was gan­graped by three men, one of them an Army con­sta­ble, be­long­ing to her vil­lage in Re­wari.

The po­lice have re­leased pic­tures of the three ac­cused. A cash re­ward of ₹1 lakh was an­nounced for any in­for­ma­tion lead­ing to their ar­rest.

At a press con­fer­ence, the SIT head, Su­per­in­ten­dent of Po­lice (Nuh) Nazneen Bhasin, said mul­ti­ple teams had been con­sti­tuted to ar­rest the ac­cused. The SIT has two Deputy Su­per­in­ten­dents of Po­lice, three in­spec­tors and two sub-in­spec­tors.

Ms. Bhasin said the med­i­cal re­port of the girl had es­tab­lished rape. The teenager is un­der ob­ser­va­tion at the Re­wari Civil Hospi­tal. She was in a sta­ble con­di­tion and was be­ing coun­selled, said se­nior med­i­cal of­fi­cer Sud­er­san Pan­war.

Di­rec­tor-Gen­eral of Po­lice (Haryana) B.S. Sandhu said the ar­rest war­rant of the ac­cused Army con­sta­ble was be­ing pro­cured.
