Brain-dead boy’s or­gans do­nated

He had met with an ac­ci­dent on Oct. 30

The or­gans of a 17-year-old boy, who was de­clared brain dead fol­low­ing griev­ous head in­juries in a road ac­ci­dent, were do­nated.

Ac­cord­ing to a press re­lease, N. Gokul­nathan, a stu­dent of Class XII and res­i­dent of Avadi, met with an ac­ci­dent on Oc­to­ber 30.

He was trav­el­ling with his fa­ther to school when their two-wheeler was in­volved in an ac­ci­dent.

The duo was ad­mit­ted to Sri Ra­machan­dra Med­i­cal Cen­tre.

Gokul­nathan had a se­vere head in­jury, while his fa­ther sus­tained mi­nor in­juries and was dis­charged the same day.

Gokul­nathan’s con­di­tion did not im­prove and he was de­clared brain dead on November 5.

His fam­ily came for­ward to do­nate his or­gans. His kid­neys, liver, heart valves and corneas were re­trieved and al­lo­cated for transplantation.
