Tool­mak­ing orang­utans

Mak­ing a hooked tool out of straight wire is a chal­lenge for chil­dren be­low eight years. Yet, a team of re­searchers has shown in a study pub­lished in Sci­en­tific Re­ports that orang­utans can make curved tools out of wire to en­able them to pull a re­ward out of a tube. This is the first time such be­hav­iour has been seen.
