As­tronomers have long be­lieved that open clus­ters of stars con­tain mem­bers of the same gen­er­a­tion. The puz­zle was that stars of sim­i­lar bright­ness in the Wild Duck clus­ter had dif­fer­ent colours, in­ter­preted as vary­ing ages. In a pa­per in Na­ture As­tron­omy, re­searchers showed vari­a­tion in ro­ta­tions caused this change in colour and not age.
