Rs 22.67 lakh looted from bank

AROUND half a dozen armed mis­cre­ants on Thurs­day looted more than Rs 22 lakh from a na­tion­alised bank lo­cated in the heart of Sheikhpura town in Bi­har, po­lice said.

As the branch of the In­dian Bank lo­cated at Ka­tra chowk, opened on Thurs­day morn­ing, around half a dozen armed mis­cre­ants barged into the bank and held the man­ager Pankaj Ku­mar and other staff cap­tive be­fore de­camp­ing with Rs 22.67 lakh from the cash counter, Sub-Divi­sional Po­lice Of­fi­cer (SDPO) Amit Sharan said. The mis­cre­ants also thrashed the branch man­ager and a cus­tomer, the SDPO said, adding that they also locked the main gate of the bank branch from out­side. The bor­ders of the district have been sealed and po­lice teams are con­duct­ing raids to nab the mis­cre­ants, he added.
