51 cases of sui­cides re­ported in past 2 weeks in Aurangabad

WITH 51 cases of sui­cides in past two weeks, the toll of dis­tressed farm­ers by dif­fer­ent means have been reached to 800 from Jan­uary 1 to Novem­ber 5, 2017 in eight dis­tricts of Marath­wada re­gion.

Most of farm­ers ended their lives by hang­ing them­selves, con­sum­ing poi­son or jump­ing into the well as they were fed up with mount­ing loans, soil in­fer­til­ity, crops dam­aged due to re­cent re­turn of mon­soon.

Divi­sional Com­mis­sioner of­fi­cial sources said the high­est 167 peas­ants com­mit­ted sui­cides in the drought-prone Beed district while the low­est 43 cases were reg­is­tered in Hin­goli district. Num­ber of cases in other district is Nanded - 124, Parb­hani - 109, Aurangabad - 108, Os­man­abad - 102, Latur -76 and Jalna - 71, the sources said.
