Miranda House bids adieu to ‘jolly’ Pegu

MIRANDA HOUSE held a condolence meeting for its student Kaayum Pegu, who succumbed to injuries sustained in an accident. Her college community remembered her as a jolly person, who always had a smile on her face. Pegu, who was from Guwahati, was a second year student of English (Hons) and an active member of the Women Development Cell (WDC) in the college.

“It’s a very unfortunate incident and was very upsetting for me... I was up all of Saturday night, and was constantly taking rounds of the hospital to monitor the situation,” said Principal Pratibha Jolly. “She was a very sweet and lovely person and was active in the North Eastern Festival we had last year. It was very difficult for me to see her in that situation, and it’s unfortunate that such a young life was lost so soon.”

Aishwarya Unnikrishnan, a student of History (Hons), who worked with Pegu in the WDC, said, “She was very jolly and friendly even with those she didn’t know very well... She was very passionate and ambitious. I last spoke with her Monday when she showed interest in working with the editorial team of the WDC...”

Pegu’s classmates and friends took to social media to pay tribute. “Thank you for being my first friend in college, Kaaye. Words can’t describe what your loss means to me. I shall always carry your spirit around with me. I hope you’re happy wherever you are,” her classmate Arushii Bhaskar posted on Facebook.

Diwisha Phookan, a friend of Pegu’s from school, wrote, “... Kaayum I’m blessed to be able to share two years of my life with a being like you.”
