SC on Teesta’s frozen accounts: What is the source of money?

New Delhi: The Supreme Court Tuesday said social activist Teesta Setalvad and her NGOS would havetodisclosethesourceofmoney inordertobuttresstheirargument fordefreezingtheirbankaccounts. These accounts were frozen by Ahmedabad Police in 2015 in the wakeoffirsrelatingtomisappropriation of money and fraud.

“Whose money is this? From where did the money in these bank accounts come? What is the source,” a bench led by Justice Dipak Misra asked Setalvad’s counsel Aparna Bhat. Bhat said several donors had given the money for various purposes. She requested the court to direct the police to at least defreeze Setalvad’s personal bank account, but the court said it would await a formal response from Gujarat Police. ENS
