Pakistan is encouraging mining companies to mine in the coalfield in the Thar desert in Sindh province in a bid to meet its growing energy needs. The Thar coal mine, which is one of the largest reserves of coal in the world, is set to become Pakistan’s largest industrial site, said officials.
