What clothes must you carry with you when you travel? No one has found the perfect answer to that question yet. One always ends up compromising, sacrificing one of style, comfort or function for the other.

Well, jet setters who have resigned themselves to being always caught one short in terms of attire can now take heart. Ermenegildo Zegna’s Second Skin Capsule Collection is the answer to their prayer. This exclusive collection of 18 trans-seasonal, lightweight pieces can be worn as effortlessly as a second skin and has been designed to meet the needs of contemporary gentlemen who live out of a suitcase. Who are successful, self-confident and value a style conscious approach to comfort. Long haul or short, each piece has its role, it knows its place and it never disappoints despite what its sometimes neglectful owners throw at it! And the best part, the ensemble weighs a mere 7.2kg in all.

The Second Skin Capsule Collection also is the first commercially available wardrobe from the Ermenegildo Zegna Winter 2017 collection under the artistic direction of Alessandro Sartori.

Two of its pillars are innovative, lightweight outerwear blousons: the first in wool and silk with a unique knitted varsity collar and cuffs, the second in extremely light, soft nubuck leather with elastic leather cuffs and bottom. To complete the look, different color combinations of jackets, polos, knitwear, shirts, trousers and denim – all characterized by a sophisticatedly relaxed form, authentic quality and distinctively precious details – seamlessly work together and can be kept in a man’s closet for 365 days a year. The smart and casual approach to contemporary fashion pays tribute to iconic Zegna colors with a rich palette ranging from vicuna and offwhite to teal, brown, navy and light grey.

Travelled light - just a briefcase, with a jacket and tie tucked inside. Shook out the creases for dinner, paired it with the tie.

Survived sand, sea and storms. Still good for meetings!

The (rainy) work trip to Hong Kong. Hand luggage only, and just 1 pair of shoes. These ones. Super light and perfect to wear without socks in heat and humidity. Then to Bali. Survived sand and sea water. Home. Worn them everywhere since

4 continents in 10 days: the strategy deployment world tour. Resisted 4 continents, 5 intercontinental trips, 4 airlines with wildly different aircon temperatures. Soft enough to sleep in, smart enough to dine in.

After dinner, pulled the hood up, to shelter from a rain shower. Bad news for the leather. But the following day, after a moment’s massage the leather was back to normal. Slept in it on the plane. It’s become almost a sweater to me.
