Kar­nataka Gov­ern­ment woos TN in­vestors for Novem­ber sum­mit

THE Kar­nataka Gov­ern­ment and the Con­fed­er­a­tion of In­dian Industry (CII) on Fri­day or­gan­ised a road­show on ‘The Ven­dor De­vel­op­ment and In­vestors Sum­mit 2017’, set­ting the stage for the event sched­uled for Novem­ber 23 and 24 at the Ban­ga­lore In­ter­na­tional Ex­hi­bi­tion Cen­tre (BIEC).

The sum­mit looks to en­able Orig­i­nal Equip­ment Man­u­fac­tur­ers (OEM) to iden­tify ven­dors among Mi­cro, Small & Medium En­ter­prises (MSMEs) while fa­cil­i­tat­ing buyer-seller meets. Speak­ing at the road­show, DV Prasad, Ad­di­tional Chief Sec­re­tary, Com­merce & In­dus­tries Depart­ment, Kar­nataka, said, “What­ever is bet­ter suited to be pro­duced in Kar­nataka ac­cord­ing to its ecosys­tem, should be pro­duced there. There should not be du­pli­ca­tion in the ef­forts of the two States.”

He added that the rise of the coun­try in terms of GDP rides pri­mar­ily on the shoul­ders of only seven or eight States in­clud­ing Tamil Nadu, Kar­nataka, Ma­ha­rash­tra, Gu­jarat and Odisha.

The sum­mit, over an area of two lakh sqft, will dis­play prod­ucts of MSMEs, Cen­tral Pub­lic Sec­tor Un­der­tak­ings (CPSUs), State Pub­lic Sec­tor Un­der­tak­ings (SPSUs) and large-scale en­ter­prises.

The ar­eas of fo­cus in the sum­mit would in­clude aero­space and de­fence equip­ment, au­to­mo­biles and elec­tric ve­hi­cles, biotech and phar­ma­ceu­ti­cals, tex­tile, agri­cul­ture and food pro­cess­ing and start-ups.

R V Desh­pande, Min­is­ter for Large and Medium In­dus­tries and In­fra­struc­ture De­vel­op­ment, Gov­ern­ment of Kar­nataka, said, “We are a sta­ble and strong gov­ern­ment with con­sis­tent poli­cies.”

We bring out poli­cies tak­ing on board in­dus­tries and stake­hold­ers. No State can progress with­out in­vest­ments. In­vest­ments should come up in Tamil Nadu too; we be­lieve in com­pe­ti­tion to at­tract in­vest­ments.”

The Min­is­ter also claimed to have cleared 1.77 lakh in­vest­ments at the global in­vestors meet, adding that Kar­nataka was a vi­sion­ary State.

M Pon­nuswami, vice chair­man, CII Tamil Nadu State Coun­cil, Deepak Sood, CEO, In­vest Kar­nataka Fo­rum, Ka­mal Bali, Pres­i­dent & MD, Volvo Group In­dia pvt ltd, L Krishnan,MD, TaeguTec In­dia Pvt Ltd and NV Venkata­sub­ra­ma­nian, Chief Ex­ec­u­tive, L&T valves Ltd were among those present.
