THE Madhya Pradesh High Court has designated seven courts in four major cities of Madhya Pradesh to hear all cases pertaining to the multicrore Vyapam scam.

A notification issued by the HC on September 11 states that “The Madhya Pradesh High Court hereby designates the courts of the additional sessions judges for trial of offences relating to Vyapam scam matters and matters linked thereto, investigated by the CBI, Delhi or Special Task Force (STF), Bhopal in suppression of all its earlier notifications.”

The cases will be heard in four cities, including Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur and Gwalior.

The notification states that the other designated courts in Rewa, Damoh, Sagar, Balaghat, Morena, Chhatarpur, Guna, Bhind and Khandwa districts will no longer be designated courts to hear the Vyapam scam related cases.

The scam involves massive irregularities and corruption in the examinations conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board, also known as MP Vyavsayik Pareeksha Mandal for admission to medical colleges and recruitment in government jobs.

Initially, MP police’s STF conducted investigation in the scandal but the probe was later handed over to the CBI on the directive of the Supreme Court in 2015.
