CM names lion cub at Vandalur zoo ‘Vishnu’
CHIEF Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Thursday named an eight-month-old lion cub at Vandalur zoo as ‘Vishnu’.
The male cub was born on February 2 this year and is healthy. It was born to ‘Jhansi’ and ‘Shiva’.
The cub was housed in a cage covered with green cloth in the middle of another enclosure near the white tiger enclosure. Palaniswami along with some of his cabinet colleagues took part in the brief event in the afternoon.
Though there were initial plans to leave the animal out of the cage into a tiny enclosure for VIPs to have a closer look, it was decided against doing so in view of the safety concerns.
Understandably, the cub, which was seeing humans for the first time, was stressed out hearing the loud noise of the speakers and the visitors’ screams. Also, it appeared that the cage was too small for the animal.
Though animal keeper K Sampath tried to make the animal stand and look at the chief minister and photographers for better pictures, it did not turn its head towards the crowd.
Later, it was shifted to the lion’s enclosure.
