Italy fails to qualify for FIFA World Cup
Milan: Four-time world champions Italy suffered the ignominy of not qualifying for the World Cup for the first time in 60 years on Monday. Needing a win against Sweden in the second leg, the Azzurris huffed and puffed but only drew 0-0. Their opponents, through a deflected goal from Jakob Johansson, had won the first leg 1-0 in Stockholm last week. It meant that Gianluigi Buffon, one of the country’s greatest players, announced his international retirement.
