Nokia starts pro­duc­tion of 5G-ready base sta­tions

Chennai: Hand­set maker Nokia said on Tues­day that it has be­gun man­u­fac­tur­ing of 5G-ready multi­band base sta­tions at its Chennai fa­cil­ity to meet the grow­ing de­mand for mo­bile broad­band. Nokia will be­gin ship­ping the prod­uct to global cus­tomers by next week. Es­tab­lished in 2008, the Chennai fa­cil­ity is the largest man­u­fac­tur­ing unit owned by the com­pany. Monika Mau­rer, COO at Nokia, said over the past nine years, the com­pany’s man­u­fac­tur­ing fa­cil­ity here has played a key role in help­ing ser­vice providers roll out new tech­nolo­gies faster. Mau­rer also sig­nalled Nokia’s in­tent to make sig­nif­i­cant changes to its sup­ply chain op­er­a­tions.
