Pun­jabi Palak is a fa­mous and healthy Pun­jabi side dish recipe. Made with moong dal and palak (spinach), this healthy recipe is rich in pro­tein and iron. It is ideal for oc­ca­sions like buf­fets, din­ners or par­ties. It is a quick recipe which pairs well with cha­p­ati, naan or paratha and can also be tried with var­i­ous rice dishes. If you have sud­den guests com­ing over and don't know what to cook on a such short no­tice, then this should be your go-to recipe as it will take very less time in cook­ing and can be made with read­ily avail­able in­gre­di­ents. Serve this de­li­cious recipe with raita of your choice!


1 cup boiled moong dal

1 bunch chopped,washed & dried spinach 3 medium finely chopped green chilli salt as re­quired

2 tea­spoon yo­ghurt (curd)

2 small finely chopped onion

1 piece grated,peeled ginger

4 tea­spoon mus­tard oil

How to make Pun­jabi Palak Step 1

For mak­ing this easy side dish recipe, take a pan and heat mus­tard oil on a low-medium flame. Saute the onions along with green chillis for 30 sec­onds. Put the flame to low and add spinach and ginger to it, while the onions change their colour to pink. Stir the in­gre­di­ents well and cover with a lid. Al­low them to cook for a minute or so.

Step 2

Now open the lid and add moong dal and salt (as per your taste) in the same pan and mix well. Add a lit­tle wa­ter and let it sim­mer for a minute. Turn off the flame and add curd to the cooked spinach. Mix it prop­erly. Let the curd rest for a few sec­onds and cover the pan with the lid.

Step 3

Re­move the lid and trans­fer the dish to a serv­ing bowl and serve this side dish with cha­p­ati, paratha or steamed rice. Serve this de­li­cious recipe with raita of your choice! jag­gery to the mix­ture. Let the jag­gery cook in the pan for a minute of two. You will no­tice that the jag­gery is melted by now. Next, add wa­ter to the pan and when wa­ter starts boil­ing, add rice flour in the mix­ture and stir con­tin­u­ously. Let this mix­ture cook for 8-10 min­utes over low flame.
