The depart­ment of Tourism Stud­ies, Cen­tral Univer­sity of Kash­mir (CUK) to­day or­gan­ised a day­long sem­i­nar on 'Sus­tain­able Tourism: A Tool for De­vel­op­ment' at Nowgam-i aca­demic block here. The sem­i­nar was part of the Pary­atan Parv, an ini­tia­tive of the Min­istry of Tourism Govern­ment of In­dia. Vice-chan­cel­lor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir, Regis­trar, Prof. M Afzal Zar­gar, Dean School of Busi­ness Stud­ies and head of the Depart­ment Tourism Stud­ies, Prof. S Fayyaz Ah­mad, ad­junct fac­ulty Dr. Saleem Beg and Dr. G.R Ghani other fac­ulty mem­bers and stu­dents were also present on the oc­ca­sion. Ad­dress­ing the gath­er­ing, Vice-chan­cel­lor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir said, "We not only need to sus­tain the tourism, but also have to fur­ther de­velop the tourism sec­tor in Jammu and Kash­mir, par­tic­u­larly in the Val­ley. He asked the stu­dents to sen­si­tize the peo­ple about the de­te­ri­o­rat­ing con­di­tion of tourist des­ti­na­tions in Kash­mir and urged the masses to re­frain from pol­lut­ing them fur­ther. He also asked the stu­dents to or­gan­ise a clean­li­ness drive at the tourist places. Regis­trar, Prof. M Afzal Zar­gar in his ad­dress said that tourism has a huge po­ten­tial in Kash­mir and is pro­vid­ing sus­te­nance to the thou­sands of fam­i­lies. Dean School of Busi­ness Stud­ies and Head depart­ment of Tourism Stud­ies, Prof. S Fayyaz Ah­mad while wel­com­ing the guests de­lib­er­ated on the role of sus­tained tourism, as a tool to boost the tourism in Val­ley. Giv­ing de­tails about the event, As­sis­tant Pro­fes­sor, Ashaq Hus­sain Na­jar ex­plained the'pary­atan Parv' say­ing that the ob­jec­tive of the Min­istry of Tourism, Govern­ment of In­dia was to at­tract the at­ten­tion of Non Res­i­dent In­di­ans (NRIS) to­wards the coun­try and help in boost­ing the tourism sec­tor in In­dia. Ad­junct fac­ulty Dr. Saleem Beg and Dr. G.R Ghani and Kash­miri travel agent based in Eng­land, Muham­mad Yasin also spoke on the oc­ca­sion. Re­search scholar from the depart­ment Mu­dasir Mir also made a pre­sen­ta­tion dur­ing the event. as­sis­tant Pro­fes­sor Asra Wani con­ducted the pro­gramme pro­ceed­ings while as As­sis­tant Pro­fes­sor, Faizan Ashraf Mir pro­posed the vote of thanks.
