Tashi takes stock of snow clear­ance work

Ex­ec­u­tive Coun­cil­lor for Zan­skar Af­fairs Er Pun­chok Tashi on Tues­day vis­ited Sha­p­ath Nal­lah and in­spected the snow clear­ance work un­der­way on the Kargil- Zan­skar Road.

The EC was ac­com­pa­nied by for­mer Ex­ec­u­tive Coun­cil­lor and Coun­cil­lor Tai Suru Aga Syed Ab­bass Razvi, Coun­cil­lor Thas­gam Abdul Rahim be­sides the of­fi­cers and en­gi­neers of Me­chan­i­cal Di­vi­sion Kargil and Suru Val­ley Di­vi­sion Sankoo. The EC in­quired from the of­fi­cers about the progress of snow clear­ance works un­der­way on the high­way and urged upon the snow clear­ance team to fur­ther step up their ef­forts so that the high­way is opened for ve­hic­u­lar traf­fic at the ear­li­est.

The snow clear­ance team in­formed the EC that snow clear­ance work has been started from both sides of Pen­zila. They fur­ther said that snow has been cleared from Kargil side up to the base of Pen­zila and from Zan­skar side up to the Pen­zila Top.

Tashi was fur­ther in­formed that the high­way is ex­pected to be opened for ve­hic­u­lar traf­fic within the next 2 days time. He hailed the ef­forts of the snow clear­ance team for their un­tir­ing ef­forts in the road clear­ance op­er­a­tions. The EC gave on spot in­struc­tions to the con­cerned of­fi­cers to make nec­es­sary ar­range­ments for spray­ing soil and to keep labour­ers in readi­ness to over­come slip­pery road con­di­tions. Mean­while, the EC has urged the stranded pas­sen­gers in Kargil and Zan­skar to move to their re­spec­tive des­ti­na­tions by 12th and 13th Novem­ber 2018.
