Sale of Text­books: LMD reg­is­ters case against school

Le­gal Metrol­ogy De­part­ment on Thurs­day reg­is­tered case against a Pri­vate School in Bandi­pora district for sell­ing books in the school premises.

Com­ply­ing with the or­ders is­sued by the Deputy Com­mis­sioner Bandi­pora to act tough against the schools forc­ing chil­dren to buy books and uni­form from the school or from spe­cific shop­keep­ers, a joint team of Rev­enue, Le­gal Metrol­ogy and Food Safety headed by Ad­di­tional Deputy Com­mis­sioner Bandi­pora con­ducted in­spec­tion of var­i­ous schools in Bandi­pora.

Dur­ing the in­spec­tion it was found that Ea­glets Pub­lic School was found in­volved in busi­ness of sell­ing books in­side the school premises.

The team seized the books in bulk and also reg­is­tered a case against the school au­thor­i­ties. Ear­lier the gov­ern­ment had also di­rected pri­vate school in­sti­tu­tions not to com­pel par­ents to buy books and uni­form from the school or from any spe­cific shops. The book­sell­ers have also been warned not to sell books on ex­or­bi­tant rates.
