SURAJKUND: While praising PM Narendra Modi who led the party to a thumping victory in the Lok Sabha elections, BJP veteran LK Advani on Sunday advised newly elected party MPs to make development people's movement.

Addressing the two-day BJP MPs' Workshop, he said that MPs have a major responsibility in implementing the PM's important call to make Development a People's Movement.

"The problems and challenges in India's development are so enormous that we simply cannot address them in the traditional way," he said.

WHILE praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi who led the party to a thumping victory in the Lok Sabha elections, Bharatiya Janata Party veteran LK Advani today advised newly elected party MPs to make development people's movement.

Addressing the Valedictory session of two-day BJP MPs' Workshop here today, he said that MPs have a major responsibility in implementing the PM's important call to make Development a People's Movement.

"The problems and challenges in India's development are so enormous that we simply cannot address them in the traditional way," he said.

"In the traditional way of governance, there has been a disconnect between the government machinery and the people in addressing all such development challenges. This is why, we are not getting the desired results, even though the government spends considerable resources on each of these various issues," Advani told party MPs.

"Therefore, Narendraji is right in insisting that Development should become a People's Movement," he added.

"Many things are needed to make this happen. But what is relevant in today's context is that our Ministers and Members of Parliament should take the lead in involving people's organisations in the implementation of government's schemes, programmes and policies," the veteran BJP leader said.

About senior Congress leader AK Antony's remark Advani said that the BJP's decisive victory in the elections has not only changed the political landscape in the country, but also influenced the political debate in the opposition camp.

"We should welcome this honest soul-searching by Antony. For he is now saying what we in the BJP had been saying all along," he added.

"We have always said that secularism should mean ? Justice for All, Appeasement of None, Discrimination against None," Advani explained.

Advani also hailed Modi for reducing Congress to a position where it is not even eligible to be designated with the post of principal Opposition in Lok Sabha.

"After 30 years, any party manged to formed government on its own. The party which ruled for 10 years need support to be the Leader of Opposition.. we have never faced a similar situation," Advani told party MPs.—
