Vohra, Omar greet people of state on oc­ca­sion of Ramzan

JAMMU and Kash­mir Gover­nor N N Vohra and Chief Min­is­ter Omar Ab­dul­lah to­day greeted the people of the state on the be­gin­ning of fast­ing month of Ramzan which starts to­mor­row.

In his mes­sage, the Gover­nor hoped that this aus­pi­cious oc­ca­sion would be a har­bin­ger of peace, amity, com­mu­nal har­mony, brother­hood, progress and pros­per­ity.

"The holy month of Ramzan is a pe­riod ded­i­cated to fast­ing, ser­vice and prayers and high­lights the val­ues of pa­tience, self-re­straint, tol­er­ance and aus­ter­ity, which pro­mote feel­ings of com­pas­sion and re­spect for oth­ers," Vohra said.

Omar in his mes­sage hoped that the holy month will be har­bin­ger of well-be­ing, progress and pros­per­ity for the mankind.

He prayed for peace and de­vel­op­ment of the state and the coun­try, an of­fi­cial spokesman said.

The Chief Min­is­ter said that the holy month pro­vides us an oc­ca­sion to seek Al­lah's mu­nifi- cence and for­give­ness.

"This is the op­por­tu­nity for the sub­jects of Al­lah to re-ded­i­cate them­selves as His true faith­ful by ob­serv­ing fast, of­fer­ing prayers till late night, ex­tend­ing com­pas­sion and kind­ness to people and show­ing high­est de­gree of tol­er­ance not only in re­spect of eat­ing food and drink­ing wa­ter but by re­nun­ci­a­tion of all ac­tiv­i­ties leading to sin and harm­ing hu­man­ity," he said.
