In­dian, Ger­man de­sign­ers win park makeover contest

Mum­bai: The MMRDA has fi­nal­ized the de­sign for the makeover of Maharashtra Na­ture Park near Mahim and pedes­tri­anand-cy­clist bridge over Mithi river.

In De­cem­ber 2015, the MMRDA had launched the global de­sign com­pe­ti­tion for the makeover of the Maharashtra Na­ture Park, in as­so­ci­a­tion with its knowl­edge part­ner Ob­server Re­search Foun­da­tion. The win­ners were Sameep Padora & As­so­ci­ates, de­sign cell and Ratan J Batli­boi Con­sul­tants Pvt Ltd, with Sch­laich Berg­er­mann Part­ner (Ger­many) and Lady­bird En­vi­ron­men­tal Con­sult­ing LLP. They will get Rs 50 lakh cash prize.

“Thirty multi-dis­ci­plinary teams from around the world had sub­mit­ted en­tries,” said Gautam Kir­tane, senior fel­low, ORF Mum­bai, and con­venor of the com­pe­ti­tion. The win­ning firm will work with MMRDA to fur­ther de­velop its mas­ter plan in line with the en­vi­ron­men­tal guide­lines and build­ing and construction reg­u­la­tions till the time it can be ex­e­cuted by a con­trac­tor.
