Man loses 9L to fraud call, hos­pi­tal­ized

Kalyan: A 50-year-old man’s blood pres­sure shot up and he had to be hos­pi­tal­ized af­ter he came to know that he had lost Rs 9 lakh to a caller who sought his bank ac­count de­tails.

Arun Khairnar had saved the money for his daugh­ter’s wed­ding, the po­lice said. The caller told Khairnar he needed the de­tails to up­date know your cus­tomer in­for­ma­tion and threat­ened to block the lat­ter’s debit card. Khairnar is an as­sis­tant con­troller in weights and mea­sure­ment de­part­ment and re­sides in Kalyan. He learnt about the fraud on Tues­day when he went to with­draw money.

“I was at home when I re­ceived a call from one Deepak Shinde who claimed to be from a na­tion­alised bank. He asked me for my CVV num­ber and PIN,” Khairnar said. —Pradeep Gupta
