Man loses 9L to fraud call, hospitalized
Kalyan: A 50-year-old man’s blood pressure shot up and he had to be hospitalized after he came to know that he had lost Rs 9 lakh to a caller who sought his bank account details.
Arun Khairnar had saved the money for his daughter’s wedding, the police said. The caller told Khairnar he needed the details to update know your customer information and threatened to block the latter’s debit card. Khairnar is an assistant controller in weights and measurement department and resides in Kalyan. He learnt about the fraud on Tuesday when he went to withdraw money.
“I was at home when I received a call from one Deepak Shinde who claimed to be from a nationalised bank. He asked me for my CVV number and PIN,” Khairnar said. —Pradeep Gupta
