Man, son get life for killing butcher in ’12

Thane: A fa­ther-son duo have been sen­tenced to life im­pris­on­ment by the Thane dis­trict court for the mur­der of a butcher and at­tempt­ing to mur­der his brother in 2012.

Mum­bra res­i­dents Mo­ham­mad Qureshi (50) and Mo­ham­mad Hanif (24) were con­victed by ad­di­tional ses­sions judge H MPat­ward­han re­cently.

Pros­e­cu­tor Var­sha Chan­dane told the court that it was on April 30, 2012 around 10 pm, the con­victs were armed with sharp knife at­tacked Mo­ham­mad Ab­dul, a meat seller and his brother Ab­dul Kadir in Mum­bra over an ar­gu­ment.

Po­lice in­spec­tor Shailen­dra Na­garkar who had reg­is­tered the of­fence of mur­der de­posed in court.

In all, 10 wit­nesses were ex­am­ined. A third ac­cused per­son, who was also tried in the case, was ac­quit­ted for want of enough ev­i­dence.

Ad­di­tional ses­sions judge HM Pat­ward­han said in his or­der, “The ac­cused were ag­gres­sive and has com­mit­ted mur­der of Mo­ham­mad Ab­dul... but this nowhere ap­pears to be rarest and rare case wherein cap­i­tal pun­ish­ment of death can be awarded... The only op­tion is to award life im­pris­on­ment.”
