Man, son get life for killing butcher in ’12
Thane: A father-son duo have been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Thane district court for the murder of a butcher and attempting to murder his brother in 2012.
Mumbra residents Mohammad Qureshi (50) and Mohammad Hanif (24) were convicted by additional sessions judge H MPatwardhan recently.
Prosecutor Varsha Chandane told the court that it was on April 30, 2012 around 10 pm, the convicts were armed with sharp knife attacked Mohammad Abdul, a meat seller and his brother Abdul Kadir in Mumbra over an argument.
Police inspector Shailendra Nagarkar who had registered the offence of murder deposed in court.
In all, 10 witnesses were examined. A third accused person, who was also tried in the case, was acquitted for want of enough evidence.
Additional sessions judge HM Patwardhan said in his order, “The accused were aggressive and has committed murder of Mohammad Abdul... but this nowhere appears to be rarest and rare case wherein capital punishment of death can be awarded... The only option is to award life imprisonment.”
