The

office of the deputy district registrar (DDR) on Saturday directed the six Agriculture Produce Market Committees (APMCs) in the district to cancel the licences of traders if they refuse to start onion auction from Monday. The traders boycotted the auction at the APMCs on Friday, following the Income Tax department’s searches on seven major onion traders that started a day earlier, leading to a crash in the prices of the commodity. The DDR, Nilkanth Kare, served notices to the Lasalgaon, Pimpalgaon, Umrane, Deola, Yeola and Kalwan APMCs. “We have issued directives to the APMCs to start onion auction from Monday or make alternative arrangements. Moreover, they have been directed to cancel the licences of the traders refusing to participate in the auction,” Kare told TOI.
