Woman hurt as tile falls at El­phin­stone

Mum­bai: A 38-year-old woman was in­jured af­ter a part of a gran­ite tile fell from the ceil­ing of the foot over-bridge at El­phin­stone Road sta­tion on Fri­day af­ter­noon. Twenty-three peo­ple had died in a stam­pede on a FOB at this Western Railway sta­tion on Septem­ber 29.

Fri­day’s in­ci­dent hap­pened around 3.30pm when Anita Basak (38) was de­scend­ing the FOB to board a train. Gov­ern­ment Railway Po­lice (GRP) per­son­nel said, “The in­ci­dent oc­curred on the side of the book­ing of­fice that con­nects to the road over-bridge.”

Basak, a house­wife, had come to El­phin­stone Road with her son for some per­sonal work. WR’s spokesper­son said, “She was rushed to KEM hos­pi­tal where she had to un­dergo two stitches on her fore­head.” A KEM of­fi­cial said, “The vic­tim had come to ca­su­alty at 3.35pm. She has no ma­jor in­jury and all X-rays and CT-scan re­ports are nor­mal. She has been dis­charged.”
