Mumbai: A faster and cheaper Rajdhani Express will be introduced for Mumbai next week. The inaugural train will run from Hazrat Nizamuddin on October 16, while the first train from Mumbai will operate from October 17 (Tuesday).

This triweekly express train will be introduced on a trial basis for three months to gauge public response to flat increase in fare against the existing flexifare, which is applicable in the other two daily Mumbai Rajdhani Express. “It will take 13 hours and 55 minutes compared to 15 hours and 55 minu- tes taken by the present Rajdhani,” an Indian Railway official said. It will run at a maximum speed of 130 kmph.

Unlike the other two Rajdhanis where dynamic fare is applicable, the special Rajdhani will have fixed fare irrespec- tive of demand, but it will costlier by 20% compared to their base fare. In the special Rajdhani, the fare of the AC 3-tier will be around Rs 500-600 cheaper than the maximum flexifare in the other two Rajdhani, while the AC 2-tier fare will be around Rs 700-800 cheaper.

It will leave Bandra at 4.05 am on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and reach Nizamuddin at 6.10 am the next day. From Nizamuddiin, it will depart at 4.15 pm on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and arrive at Bandra at 6.10 am the next day. It will halt at Surat, Vadodara and Kota. The train will have one first AC, two 2AC and twelve 3ACs.
