4 arrested for theft of 93L stamps, forex
Mumbai: Four people have been arrested for allegedly stealing antique international currency and stamps collectively valued at Rs 93 lakh. With their arrest, the police said two thefts that took place over the last two years have been solved.
The police said the first theft took place in April 2016 where the accused stole valuable antiques worth Rs 73.86 lakh from a shop near CST. On September 3, the thieves decamped with antique stamps and forex currency of Rs 20.25 lakh collective value.
The arrested accused who are from the city have been identified as Artha alias Dinesh Khade (23), the kingpin, Vijay Waghmare (19), Vinod Jadhav (23) and Praful Shinde (23).
The police said he had dodged CCTV cameras. The gang had used stolen keys to break into the shop. The seized currency and stamps worth Rs 39 lakh were found at the Nashik home of a relative of one accused.
