4 ar­rested for theft of 93L stamps, forex

Mum­bai: Four peo­ple have been ar­rested for al­legedly steal­ing an­tique in­ter­na­tional cur­rency and stamps col­lec­tively val­ued at Rs 93 lakh. With their ar­rest, the po­lice said two thefts that took place over the last two years have been solved.

The po­lice said the first theft took place in April 2016 where the ac­cused stole valu­able an­tiques worth Rs 73.86 lakh from a shop near CST. On Septem­ber 3, the thieves de­camped with an­tique stamps and forex cur­rency of Rs 20.25 lakh col­lec­tive value.

The ar­rested ac­cused who are from the city have been iden­ti­fied as Artha alias Di­nesh Khade (23), the king­pin, Vi­jay Wagh­mare (19), Vinod Jad­hav (23) and Praful Shinde (23).

The po­lice said he had dodged CCTV cam­eras. The gang had used stolen keys to break into the shop. The seized cur­rency and stamps worth Rs 39 lakh were found at the Nashik home of a rel­a­tive of one ac­cused.
