2 brothers die on tracks after visiting ‘critical’ uncle in hosp
Kalyan: Two brothers who were returning home after visiting an uncle who has been admitted to hospital in a critical condition died after they were run over by a local train at Kopar railway station on Thursday night. The deceased — Panvel resident Pramod Lokhande (39) and his brother Pune resident Sachin(41) — were crossing the tracks, the railway police said.
As word of the accident spread, locals staged an impromptu protest against the railway authorities, demanding a foot over-bridge across the tracks at the station.
The elder brother, Sanjay, said in his police statement that Pramod and Sachin had gone to visit the uncle who has been put on a ventilator at the hospital in Vasai.
Railway police officials said that the two brothers had taken a local train from Vasai to Kopar. They were crossing the track when a speeding local tra- in knocked them down around 8.30 pm.
The railway police said that on receiving information about the accident, the brothers were rushed to Shastri Nagar Hospital which is run by Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation where doctors declared both the brothers as being ‘brought dead’.
Senior inspector of Government Railway Police, G C Hiremath,said that an accidental death report has been filed in the case and further investigation is going on.
While the Lokhande family originally hails from Ratnagiri, Pramod lived with his family in Panvel where he worked for a private company while Sachin’s family is settled in Pune.
