Thane: The anti-extortion cell of the crime branch said IAS officer Radheshyam Mopalwar on Sunday reportedly received a call from gangster Ravi Pujari, asking him to take back an extortion case against private detective Satish Mangle, his actress wife Shradda and others. He has also demanded Rs 7 crore, said a police officer.

Following the Pujari call, officials have invoked MCOCA against the Mangles and their aides. The Mangales, who were arrested on November 3, allegedly threatened to defame Mopalwar using call tapes and sought Rs 7 crore to retract corruption allegations against him and return the tapes, the police said.

The couple has been booked under sections 384, 386, 387 and 34 of the IPC. Mangale’s brother-in-law, Atul Tawde, too has been arrested. “As Pujari’s threat calls fall under the category of organized crimes, MCOCA has been applied and the accused have been booked under sections 3(1),(ii), 3(2), 3(4) of 1999,” the officer informed.
