Police return woman’s bag with ₹ 1.4L jewellery
Mumbai: Dindoshi police returned a handbag containing gold jewellery worth Rs 1.4 lakh that a 30-year-old woman lost in Andheri.
Police said Sonu Shirsat, who is employed as a bouncer at a pub, hired an autorickshaw from near a bus stop to travel from Andheri east to west. It was much later that she realized that her bag was missing.
She registered a complaint with the D N Nagar police, who scrutinized the CCTV footage retrieved from cameras near the bus stop from where she had hired the auto, but failed to get any leads.
Recently, a Dindoshi police officer received a tip-off that an automobile mechanic in Malad (E) had found a bag with gold jewellery near a bus stop in Andheri (E).
“We questioned the mechanic who claimed that he had found the handbag containing the jewellery abandoned near the bus stop,” said a senior officer from Dindoshi police station. “We made enquiries with all the police stations in the western suburbs and found a complaint about a missing bag at D N Nagar police station. We then called Shirsat to Dindoshi police station and only after verification, returned the bag and jewellery to her.”
