Po­lice return woman’s bag with ₹ 1.4L jew­ellery

Mum­bai: Din­doshi po­lice re­turned a hand­bag con­tain­ing gold jew­ellery worth Rs 1.4 lakh that a 30-year-old woman lost in And­heri.

Po­lice said Sonu Shir­sat, who is em­ployed as a bouncer at a pub, hired an au­torick­shaw from near a bus stop to travel from And­heri east to west. It was much later that she re­al­ized that her bag was miss­ing.

She reg­is­tered a com­plaint with the D N Na­gar po­lice, who scru­ti­nized the CCTV footage re­trieved from cam­eras near the bus stop from where she had hired the auto, but failed to get any leads.

Re­cently, a Din­doshi po­lice of­fi­cer re­ceived a tip-off that an au­to­mo­bile me­chanic in Malad (E) had found a bag with gold jew­ellery near a bus stop in And­heri (E).

“We ques­tioned the me­chanic who claimed that he had found the hand­bag con­tain­ing the jew­ellery aban­doned near the bus stop,” said a se­nior of­fi­cer from Din­doshi po­lice sta­tion. “We made en­quiries with all the po­lice sta­tions in the western sub­urbs and found a com­plaint about a miss­ing bag at D N Na­gar po­lice sta­tion. We then called Shir­sat to Din­doshi po­lice sta­tion and only af­ter ver­i­fi­ca­tion, re­turned the bag and jew­ellery to her.”
