Levied higher GST at eatery? Call helpline

Mum­bai: The le­gal metrol­ogy depart­ment will start a helpline to ad­dress com­plaints of restau­rants levy­ing higher goods and ser­vice tax (GST).

GST at restau­rants has been re­duced from 18% to 5% from Wed­nes­day. The helpline 1800225900 will be ac­ti­vated from Wed­nes­day it­self, said Girish Ba­pat, state food and civil sup­plies min­is­ter. Restau­rant own­ers are ex­pected to print re­vised menus with the new tax­a­tion rates fac­tored in, he said. “We have asked ho­tels and chemists to put up boards dis­play­ing the toll­free num­ber and GST num­ber,” said Ba­pat.
