Two fake cops held for dup­ing 10 ATM users

Kalyan: Two per­sons, Ghan­shyam Tho­rat (35) and San­deep Landge (26), were ar­rested for pos­ing as cops and dup­ing as many as 10 ATM users from Kalyan, Dom­bivli, Ul­has­na­gar and Am­ber­nath. Po­lice have also seized key chains and po­lice caps with the logo of Ma­ha­rash­tra po­lice from their pos­ses­sion. Po­lice said that one more ac­cused, who is part of the gang, is on the run.

Suresh Dam­bare, as­sis­tant po­lice in­spec­tor from Ma­hatma Phule po­lice sta­tion said, “The ac­cused used to tar­get un­sus­pect­ing ATM users and con­vince them that the cur­rency which they with­drew is fake and might land in trou­ble. The vic­tims handed over the money to the ac­cused as­sum­ing they were cops.”

The po­lice went through CCTV records of var­i­ous ATMS and iden­ti­fied the ac­cused. Dam­bare said, “The ac­cused were spot­ted near Kalyan rail­way sta­tion. We laid a trap and nabbed two of them while the third one man­aged to es­cape.”
