SRA dispute: 1 more Pujari aide arrested

The Times of India (Mumbai edition) - - TIMES CITY -

Mumbai: Over two weeks after two Ravi Pujari aides and a developer were arrested for allegedly using the gangster’s help to settle a dispute in a SRA project in Malad, the crime branch arrested another Pujari aide.

Police claimed Kamal Singh alias Kamruddin Patel had received money from Pujari aides Dashrat Shinde and Sunil Jadhav, who were arrested along with builder Vikrant Vardani, to threaten Sushil Shinde, the proprietor of Nirvana Properties.

In 2008, Nirvana Properties undertook SRA redevelopment of Vishava Co-Operative Housing Society at Dindoshi, Malad. Police said Nirvana Properties entered into a joint venture with N Thakkar from Ami Corporation. While Ami Corporation carried a project survey and submitted a report that of the 511 slum dwellers, only 90 were eligible for flats in the redeveloped building. The dispute over eligibility was still on when Ami Corporation, without seeking permission from the society members or Nirvana Properties, dropped the latter and signed a joint venture with Parth Mehta of Paradigm Construction.

Early this year, when Sushil met Thakkar, Mehta and Vardani in Thakkar’s Juhu office, Vardani allegedly threatened him saying he had ‘underworld links’ and if Sushil didn’t settle, he would face consequences, said police. —S Ahmed Ali
