Bag with phones, passport snatched
Mumbai: A pillion rider snatched the bag of a woman, Ritu Tripathi, containing her passport, bank cards, cellphones and foreign currency valued at Rs 35,000 on Monday.
The incident occurred on a road over-bridge near Kandivli railway station when the victim was travelling in an auto along with her sister. Ritu, who works in Australia, is visiting her family in Mumbai. The Samta Nagar police has registered a robbery case against two unidentified people and are examining CCTV footage procured from an establishment for clues.
The pillion rider yanked Ritu’s bag that she had placed on her lap after which the biker sped away.
“The stretch is usually congested, but on Monday there was little traffic. We have been patrolling the area regularly. Such incidents have not been reported at the stretch in the past. We are examining CCTV footage of the area for clues,” said Anil Mane, senior inspector at Samta Nagar police station. Ritu had planned to stay in the city for a week.
Nitu, works as a medical officer with the police surgeon, had received her sister at the airport. They had booked an app-based cab, but the driver told them to cancel the booking as he wanted to go in another direction. The two women then hired an auto outside the airport at 10 pm. They suspect the biker had been following them.
