Rush to choose Anglo MLA challenged
The Congress-JD(S) alliance and the Anglo-Indian community association moved the Supreme Court on Thursday challenging the BS Yeddyurappa government’s decision, within hours of being sworn in and before facing the floor test, to recommend to the governor to nominate a person from the community, Vinisha Nero, as an MLA. A bench headed by Justice A K Sikri agreed to hear it on Friday.
The All India Anglo Indian Association vice-president Clive Michael Van Buerle filed a writ petition to question the nomination. “We are clear our nominated member should not be misused in a number game,” said Barry O’Brien, chief of the association.
