Rush to choose An­glo MLA chal­lenged

The Con­gress-JD(S) al­liance and the An­glo-In­dian com­mu­nity as­so­ci­a­tion moved the Supreme Court on Thurs­day chal­leng­ing the BS Yed­dyu­rappa gov­ern­ment’s de­ci­sion, within hours of be­ing sworn in and be­fore fac­ing the floor test, to rec­om­mend to the gov­er­nor to nom­i­nate a per­son from the com­mu­nity, Vin­isha Nero, as an MLA. A bench headed by Jus­tice A K Sikri agreed to hear it on Fri­day.

The All In­dia An­glo In­dian As­so­ci­a­tion vice-pres­i­dent Clive Michael Van Buerle filed a writ pe­ti­tion to ques­tion the nom­i­na­tion. “We are clear our nom­i­nated mem­ber should not be mis­used in a num­ber game,” said Barry O’Brien, chief of the as­so­ci­a­tion.
