WR desilts 40 culverts, says its rain-ready
Mumbai: Western Railway said it is geared to tackle emergencies due to heavy rain as it has desilted around 40 culverts along its suburban corridor, besides lifting the level of tracks and installing pumps.
WR chief PRO Ravinder Bhakar said, “We will pay more attention to flood-prone sections, including Grant Road, Elphinstone Road, Dadar, Matunga Road-Mahim yard, Bandra-Khar, Andheri-Jogeshwari and Nalla Sopara-Virar.”
WR has completed the first round of desilting in all 40 culverts and work on the remaining three will be done by May 25. Subsequent desilting will be completed after a joint inspection of the first round, he added.
He said lifting of tracks in low-lying areas had been completed in Mahim yard on the Harbour line and between BandraKhar down slow line.
WR has placed 100 pumps at Marine Lines, Mumbai Central, Dadar, Matunga Road, Mahim, Bandra, Andheri, Borivli, Nalla Sopara and Virar.
