Navi Mum­bai: A re­tired wing com­man­der, Ashok Ku­mar Sharma (51), was ar­rested by the Navi Mum­bai po­lice in a hous­ing project fraud case. Sharma, one of three ac­cused direc­tors of Jupiter In­fra­struc­ture Pvt Ltd, was ar­rested from Ben­galuru on Thurs­day.

A case was reg­is­tered at Khan­desh­war po­lice sta­tion last De­cem­ber. On Fri­day, a court in Pan­vel sent Sharma to po­lice cus­tody till July 17.

An FIR was reg­is­tered af­ter a res­i­dent of the hous­ing colony, ‘Com­man­der Gate­way’, Man­ish Joshi (43), lodged a com­plaint. The project was launched by Shailesh Dhawda, a builder ac­cused in the case, with ex-de­fence of­fi­cers led M/s Jupiter Mum­bai: The king­pin of a credit card cloning racket, Manoj Ku­mar, a Mira Road res­i­dent, was ar­rested at Chen­nai air­port on Thurs­day on his ar­rival from Malaysia. Ku­mar’s name had cropped up last week when a gang of five was ar­rested in a credit card cloning racket case.

On June 20, five of Ku­mar’s al­leged gang mem­bers were ar­rested. Ku­mar used to email them stolen card data. The five Mum­bai res­i­dents and an aide from Jammu & Kash­mir would copy the data onto blank cards and trans­fer money from for­eign bank ac­counts into theirs in India. The gang mem­bers, in con­nivance with few shop­keep­ers, used the cloned cards for fi­nan­cial trans­ac­tions. The po­lice seized 51 cards and 65 swip­ing ma­chines from them.
