Navi Mumbai: A retired wing commander, Ashok Kumar Sharma (51), was arrested by the Navi Mumbai police in a housing project fraud case. Sharma, one of three accused directors of Jupiter Infrastructure Pvt Ltd, was arrested from Bengaluru on Thursday.
A case was registered at Khandeshwar police station last December. On Friday, a court in Panvel sent Sharma to police custody till July 17.
An FIR was registered after a resident of the housing colony, ‘Commander Gateway’, Manish Joshi (43), lodged a complaint. The project was launched by Shailesh Dhawda, a builder accused in the case, with ex-defence officers led M/s Jupiter Mumbai: The kingpin of a credit card cloning racket, Manoj Kumar, a Mira Road resident, was arrested at Chennai airport on Thursday on his arrival from Malaysia. Kumar’s name had cropped up last week when a gang of five was arrested in a credit card cloning racket case.
On June 20, five of Kumar’s alleged gang members were arrested. Kumar used to email them stolen card data. The five Mumbai residents and an aide from Jammu & Kashmir would copy the data onto blank cards and transfer money from foreign bank accounts into theirs in India. The gang members, in connivance with few shopkeepers, used the cloned cards for financial transactions. The police seized 51 cards and 65 swiping machines from them.
