Cops record civic chief’s statement
Mumbai: Azad Maidan police, probing the tampering of a plot acquisition file in BMC’s development plan (DP) department, recorded the statement of civic chief Ajoy Mehta as part of their investigation process.
The police had last month booked two builders who own the plot, Gyanprakash Kamalshankar Shukla and his brother Nikhil Kamalshankar Shukla and advocate Brahamdev Pandey, for forgery and criminal conspiracy.
“We have recorded Mehta’s statement,” confirmed a senior police officer, refusing to divulge further.
The Shuklas had filed a petition in high court regarding dereservation of their plot at Majas, Jogeshwari East. The court said the reservation had lapsed and they were free to develop the property. Subsequently, on May 14, BMC chief Ajoy Mehta, in his order on the file, noted: “We should challenge this [matter] in Supreme Court.” However, this noting was altered to: “We shouldn’t challenge this in the Supreme Court.”
