Neta’s Kin Thrash Victim For Filing Police Complaint Gujarat BJP vice-president quits over rape allegations
Agra: A 37-year-old teacher, the wife of an Uttar Pradesh policeman, was allegedly sexually harassed by a local BJP leader on Friday. The woman was also brutally thrashed by the accused man’s relatives after she approached police for help. She has suffered partial hearing loss in the right ear and fractures to an arm. The entire incident of thrashing was caught in a CCTV camera. Following the assault, an FIR was lodged against seven accused, all of whom are absconding.
According to police, the crime took place at Bijauli village under Bah police jurisdiction of Agra. The accused, Atul Chauhan, is the vice president of BJP Kisan Morcha’s Agra unit.
“I was getting my children ready for school when Chauhan, who was standing in front of his house, suddenly flashed and asked me to hold it. I immediately left the house to drop my two kids off at school before heading to the police station for help. No formal complaint was filed but the officers said that they would detain Chauhan for questioning,” said the woman.
The victim, an assistant teacher at a government primary school, is the wife of an inspector posted at the Fatehgarh training centre of UP police.
“As soon as I reached home, Chauhan’s wife and other relatives, who were waiting with batons, charged at me. Later, I informed my husband over phone. He came in the evening and took me to the police station where an FIR was lodged against the accused people,” added the woman.
Chauhan has been booked under IPC section 354 A (physical contact and advances involving unwelcome and explicit sexual overtures). Six others, including his mother Bitti Devi, wife (name not known), sistersin-law and brother, were booked under section 452 (trespassing), 147 (riot), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with an intent to provoke breach of trust) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC. The victim’s husband said, “This is not the first time that my wife has been sexually harassed by Chauhan. But the local police have never filed any FIR.” Surat: Gujarat BJP vice-president and former Kutch MLA, Jayanti Bhanushali, resigned from all party posts after a 21-year-old woman in Surat accused him of raping her several times on the pretext of getting her an admission into a fashion designing course.
Bhanushali, who represented Abdasa assembly constituency from 2007 to 2012, wrote to state BJP president Jitu Vagha- ni stating he was resigning from all posts till he gets a clean chit on all the allegations. Sources, however, said that Vaghani had asked him to quit after the news of accusations against him gained steam on Friday.
The woman submitted her application of complaint on Tuesday to Surat police commissioner Satish Sharma and Varachha police station. She demanded police protection as she feared for her and her family’s lives as Bhanushali is an influential person. The woman’s relative introduced her to Bhanushali (57) after she expressed her desire to study fashion designing in Ahmedabad. In November 2017, Bhanushali called her to Ahmedabad with her certificates. She was made to sit in a car and then allegedly raped in a field on the way to Gandhinagar. According to her complaint, Bhanushali had a knife and his associate was armed with a gun. One person took a video of the act, she alleged. The woman claimed Bhanushali started blackmailing her with the video and established a “regular” physical relationship with her.
Police commissioner Satish Sharma told TOI, “We received her application on July 10 and we are sending it to the police station concerned for action .”
In March 2018, Bhanushali allegedly called her at a hotel near Ahmedabad airport and raped her. “On April 24, a person from Bhanushali’s office came to my house and forced me to sign on a blank paper and red book. I was also given a pen drive in which the video clip of the act with Bhanushali was recorded,” she alleged. The woman has also alleged that the BJP leader was forcing her to enter into physical relationship with other men.
Bhanushali stated in his letter to Vaghani, “I came to know that someone has filed a complaint against me in Surat. I sense this is a conspiracy against me. Someone is trying to tarnish my family’s and my reputation. I demand unbiased investigation in the case.”
