Two rape-mur­ders in As­sam train by same duo, caught be­fore com­mit­ting 3rd crime

Di­bru­garh: Two crim­i­nals ar­rested by the spe­cial in­ves­ti­ga­tion team of the As­sam po­lice in con­nec­tion with the mur­ders of two women in­side train toi­lets on suc­ces­sive days have con­fessed to their crimes.

On July 10, a 19-year-old girl was found mur­dered in one of the toi­lets of the Di­bru­garh-Rangiya Ex­press at Si­maluguri junc­tion. Barely 30 hours later, an­other woman was found mur­dered in a toi­let of the Avadh As­sam Ex­press on the same route at Mar­i­ani junc­tion.

Upon in­ter­ro­ga­tion, it has come to light that the two vic­tims were raped by the duo be­fore be­ing mur­dered. Prime ac­cused Bikash Das was, in fact, plan­ning to com­mit a third mur­der on a dif­fer­ent train be­fore he was ar­rested by a rail­way pro­tec­tion force con­sta­ble at Tin­sukia rail­way sta­tion on Thurs­day morn­ing. The se­cond ac­cused Bipin Pandey was nabbed from Di­bru­garh sta­tion on Fri­day. Pandey has told the po­lice that he in­dulged in sex with the corpses of the vic­tims.
